How viable is it to just not use Paths in DD2?

Hey, I haven't been playing DD2 until Kingdoms since Confessions didn't really vibe with me. I've been doing pretty well, but I've also been using everyone as a Wanderer, because it feels like most of the Paths change all my favorite skills. Is this a mistake? Should I be giving more Paths a try?
